There lies a sleeping giant. Let her sleep. For when she wakes, she will shake the world.
-----------------------Napoleon Bonaparte, upon surveying a map of China, 1803
Design in art, is a recognition of the relation between various things, various elements in the creative flux. You can't invent a design. You recognize it, in the fourth dimension. That is, with your blood and your bones, as well as with your eyes.

XYZ Design could only have been conceived in a world that moves at hyper-speed, where the impossible is made feasible on a daily basis, and where conventions and limits are dismissed with the wave of a hand. In other words, the consortium of designers who dream up crazy, decadent, and beautiful objects for XYZ Design can only be working from within the massive borders of China, that feared “sleeping giant” who, as the entire world knows, has finally woken up. China’s constant construction, its incredible economic growth rate, and the ability to produce practically anything and everything that the world requires has given the country a frenetic, as well as an opulent and abundant, feeling. XYZ Design is very much a part of this zeitgeist, producing technically brilliant works in twenty-first century factories from its base in vibrant Shanghai. However, concurrent with the design company’s self-positioning in contemporary Chinese life is its conscious decision to incorporate aspects of traditional Chinese culture into its products. This is XYZ Design’s attempt to not only preserve aspects of an ancient society that is rapidly being subsumed by imported movies and music, but is also a way for contemporary designers to interact with and reinterpret century-old designs in a modern way.
